The city of Austin, Texas, is among the first in the country to begin water-treatment facilities that are free of lead.
The city says the free-standing water treatment facilities are designed to remove lead from water and soil.
The city says it is partnering with private companies to develop and manufacture water treatment systems.
The Austin Water Works has installed free-stand water treatment equipment at its five water treatment plants, and the company says they are currently producing two-thirds of the city’s water treatment needs.
The company says its water treatment technology is “free of lead, arsenic and other contaminants.”
